Joss Whedon Officially Directing The Avengers

Joss Whedon announced today that he’s officially directing The Avengers, while on stage with J.J. Abrams at San Diego’s Comic-Con. He joked that Marvel didn’t have enough money for a real press release, so he took it up himself to confirm previous reports that he was in talks to direct the film. When pressed for further details, he said that it was way too early to reveal anything.

The news isn’t exactly surprising, but still it’s good to have final confirmation on the matter. As a Whedon fan, I’m excited to see what he can do with the material. Whedon mentioned that he was a huge fan of early Avenger’s comics while growing up, and he seemed understandably excited and humbled at having the opportunity to direct the film.

Leonardo DiCaprio's curiosity almost killed him during a recent eco-diving trip

Leonardo DiCaprio almost suffered a death at sea recently when a eco-diving trip off the Galapagos Islands went awry. The Titanic star was close to running out of air in his tank when he took off after a school of stingray and strayed from his diving party.

He tells the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine, “I was trying to get footage with a rinky-dink camera. I looked down, because I was exerting myself a lot, and I think the tanks weren’t fastened properly, and I had, like 40 pounds of pressure.”

Too deep to simply swim to the surface, DiCaprio took one deep breath and rejoined his diving group who shared oxygen with the star.

He admits there was a moment when his life flashed before him: “All you think about at that moment is, like, ‘Get me the hell out of this situation."

Ali Lohan To Go Braless Until Sister Released from Prison

Ali Lohan, teenage sister of troubled actress, Lindsay Lohan, has announced this morning that she will not wear a bra in public through the entire duration of her sister's incarceration. Ali Lohan intends her braless gesture as a protest of the harsh prison sentence leveled on sister, Lindsay, for missing a couple or three court-ordered drug and alcohol treatment classes, and, also, as a tribute to her older sister who routinely let her big boobs fly commando beneath her tops.

'When times are tough, we Lohan girls remove our bras and flash our double fun bags of determination,' said Ali Lohan. 'Our braless tatas tell the world we will never surrender.'

Christopher Nolan chose Joseph Gordon-Levitt for "The Riddler"?

Rumor has it that Christopher Nolan is seriously considering Joseph Gordon-Levitt for the role of The Riddler for the third Batman film.

Another Batman 3 casting rumor has surfaced. They grow like weeds. Most of them are wrong so treat this with extreme skepticism: A site called Hollywoodlife claims Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Batman director Christopher Nolan’s first choice to play The Riddler in his sequel to The Dark Knight.

As evidence they offer only an unnamed source whom they claim is close to the director. Weighted against this rumor however is the fact that Nolan is still pretty busy releasing his new movie Inception and probably hasn’t even really started working on another Batman movie yet. Even if they had, they still don’t have a script. I doubt they’ve even decided which villain they’ll use. This rumor seems as unlikely as all the others.

But oh how I want it to be likely.

Levitt belongs in Nolan’s Batman universe. He’s a brilliant actor who could really nail something like this. Personally I’d rather see him playing Clayface, Riddler’s already been done once in the Batman world and it’d be nice to see them tackling someone different (in fact Nolan has already hinted that he might avoid any already used villains). Unfortunately since Clayface has unbelievably weird superpowers (he’s made of clay, almost literally), brilliant character though he is, probably doesn’t fit very well into Nolan’s ultra-realistic Batman world. If Levitt really did end up being Riddler, I won’t complain. He’ll be brilliant.

Adam Brody says Kristen Stewart should quit acting

The OC star Adam Brody has taken a shot at Twilight star Kristen Stewart, saying that actors who can’t handle tabloid fame should just quit.

In a web interview with Oscar-winning Juno writer Diablo Cody, the 30-year-old was asked about fame and tabloid culture in Los Angeles – with a reference to Stewart, who is known for complaining about all the attention she gets from the media and fans.

On her show Red Band Trailer, Cody asked him, “Do you enjoy being famous or do you wish you could just be an actor apart from that, a la Kristen Stewart?”

“Ah, that was funny,” said Brody, who starred in Cody-penned film
Jennifer’s Body.

“I think it’s a shame because, you know, at certain times it’s amazing. I don’t really give a s*** about the Lakers, but if you did, you could have great seats. There are plenty of perks.

'It's only gotten worse, I'm sure, being a celebrity. At the same time, I don't have a lot of patience for people who moan about it too much.

“Because there are many things you could do. It's like, quit… you don't need to be an actor, so it's like if it's that much of a problem… there's the door.'

“Despicable Me” anything but despicable

Any animated film that comes out the same summer as a Pixar film is bound to have trouble meeting those high standards. Illumination Entertainment, the new Universal/NBC-owned production company tries its hardest with “Despicable Me,” a lighthearted caper film that draws inspiration from “The Incredibles” and “Monsters, Inc.,” among others. “Despicable Me” is a worthy first effort for the fledgling animation studio, and while the film certainly doesn't reach Pixar's lofty levels, it's still an enjoyable family movie.

“Despicable Me” centers around a bumbling spy named Gru (Steve Carell with a dubious Russian accent) whose glory days of villainy are behind him. Desperate to prove to the world (and his oft-disappointed mother) that he can wheel and steal with the best of them, Gru concocts a scheme involving a shrink ray, a rocket and three adorable orphan girls. With the help of his inventor sidekick Dr. Nefario (an unrecognizable Russell Brand) and thousands of chattering minions, Gru plans to steal the moon and hold it for ransom.

“Despicable Me” keeps the action moving at such a frantic pace, it feels like the filmmakers are attempting to keep audiences from focusing on the weaker elements. In a way, it works, as audiences will be too busy laughing at the “Spy vs. Spy” antics of Gru and his young supervillain rival Vector (Jason Segel) to realize many of the gags are a bit lame. Gru's yellow pill-shaped minions are there at every turn for comic relief, but more often than not their incomprehensible babbling comes off as obnoxious rather than annoying. The three orphan girls are adorable, especially the diminutive Agnes, but directors Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud use them as the de facto emotional cues too often, and even their irrepressible cuteness can't overcome the cheesy dialogue.

Ultimately, “Despicable Me” vindicates itself with Carell's performance as the hardened supervillain with a heart of gold. When he begins to see the girls less as cogs in his nefarious plot and more as his family, it's predictable, but nevertheless enjoyable. His first attempt at reading the girls a bedtime story called “Three Little Kittens” is especially hilarious and heartfelt. Adults will empathize with Gru's financial troubles, as he struggles to secure a loan from the Bank of Evil (formerly Lehman Brothers) only to be denied in favor of the young and hip Vector instead. They'll also laugh at Gru's assorted attempts to break into Vector's house, a sleek white abode that might as well be called the Apple iFortress. Finally, audiences will be unable to shake the film's infectious songs from their head, as legendary hip-hop producer Pharrell Williams has done a masterful job with the score, proving you don't need Randy Newman to make a kid's film sing.

In short, “Despicable Me” isn't breaking down any barriers or changing the animation paradigm as Pixar (or even Dreamworks' “Shrek”) did. However, it still holds its own as an animated feature, and can stand proud as one of the better films in this otherwise underperforming summer movie season.

Leonardo on Father Figure and Inception

Leonardo DiCaprio, now 35 years old, has been a bachelor for a long time now. However, he doesn’t dismiss the fact the he is going to have his own family someday.

DiCaprio said that to be married is one of his life’s dreams and it will definitely happen. The only thing that still yet to be known is the time when this change in his life is going to take place. He said that he will definitely want to become a problem but he thinks that this is not the right time yet.

He as well added that he can definitely play the role of a very good father without being one in real life.

Leonardo DiCaprio starred in a newly released movie from Warner Bros., “Inception” where he plays as Dom Cobb, the Extractor—a man who specializes in subconscious security but steals his client’s ideas. Aside from that role, he as well plays the father of two young children. He claimed that the feeling of being a father is already natural in him and he still has all the time to become one so he doesn’t have to rush things up.

Who is coming back to The Office next season?

Lil Wayne Owes $1.1 Million In Unpaid Taxes & Has A New EP coming out

According to The Detroit News, Florida court records indicate that the Internal Revenue Service filed a $1.13 million tax lien against the rapper last month in Dade County Circuit Court.

Apparently, he owes income taxes from 2004, 2005 and 2007, and the lien lists the address of Weezy's One Family Foundation on the document. The 2004 line shows an unpaid balance of $176,561, as well as $97,686 for 2005 and $864,511 for 2007 for the organization.

This is the second time Wayne has had a tax lien filed against him, following one in 2008 when he paid off a tax debt of $977,840.

A spokesperson for Wayne could not be reached for comment at press time.

"I'm putting out a [Wayne EP] called I'm Not a Human Being, and I'll probably drop it on his birthday, September 27," Bryant told Vibe.com. Bryant said the EP won't have the fanfare of a high-profile major-label release and revealed that he's opting instead for a more low-key way to get the music to the masses. "We're not about to roll out no three-month setup. I'm not even putting it out in stores. We just gonna put it out virally and maybe package it up for Christmas. Give 'em a hard copy later for fan appreciation," Bryant said of the release, which is billed as a prelude to Tha Carter IV.

Wayne is approximately halfway through his yearlong sentence and may be released early on good behavior. While the Human Being EP might satisfy fans until the star is back on the scene, Weezy protégé Nicki Minaj — who has kept in touch with Wayne throughout his sentence — said he's probably going to head back into the game with an arsenal of new material.

"I know when he comes out, it's gonna be a problem, 'cause he's one of those people that needs to get out his thoughts," Minaj told MTV News. "So I would imagine he would probably be in the studio for 60 days straight. He'll probably do three albums the day he comes home."

Exciting New pictures from the set of "Transformers 3"

Hard at work in the midwest, Shia LaBeouf and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley were spotted on the set of "Transformers 3" in Chicago on Friday (July 16).

Getting into the action scenes, the co-stars sprinted through piles of rubble and concrete as they filmed a fast paced scene for the movie along the blocked-off city streets.

In related news, an E! insider recently dished on Shia's bulked-up body, saying that the "Indiana Jones" hunk has definitely packed on a fair share of muscle.

The source tells, "He was short but so built. I bumped into him and literally said whoa. That's how surprising his presence was and how un-scrawny he looked!"

Meanwhile, fans can look forward to seeing the Michael Bay directed film when it hits theaters on July 1, 2011.

Rihanna NOT reuniting with Chris

Recent reports suggest Rihanna and ex-boyfriend Chris Brown have been keeping in touch and that Rihanna was keen for a face-to-face meeting with Brown despite his 2009 assault to her.

However, a rep for the "Umbrella" hitmaker blasted the stories, telling Gossip Cop that the stories are absolutely "not true."

Rihanna and Brown's back-in-contact reports were first run by Britain's Heat magazine.

According to the mag, the "Mama Black Widow" actress has spoken to Brown over the telephone after seeing his emotional performance at the BET Awards in late June.
